Day one topic- History of Land Ownership within the United States
Day one breakdown of topics to be discussed; Native American vs European philosophy of land ownership, colonial land descriptions, the cultural and political history of the PLSS, the history of Colorado’s Principal
Meridians, the effect of squatting in Colorado, the influence of the railroads in Colorado’s PLSS.
Note: I usually give this day’s lecture dressed in authentic colonial attire.
Day two topic- Fundamental Interpretation of Legal Instruments
Day two- Estates in land and the development of the deed as a legal instrument to exchange property, the reason we have a recorder’s office and ideas to improve the flow of information to the assessment office, breaking down other legal instruments regarding transfers of rights and the proper interpretation of them.
