About This Course

Legal Literacy for Assessment Personnel. This lecture is designed to help assessment staff apply a wide range of real property laws and generally accepted principles and practices for maintaining a county cadastre. We review in detail various documents related to the ownership and transfer of property rights. This workshop provides assessment staff with an understanding of surveying, real estate law, property ownership and transfer, boundary interpretation, and the review of complex property laws and recorded documents encountered in maintaining cadastral geographic information databases.

This workshop reviews the complex property laws, recorded documents, and the interpretation thereof, assessment staff may encounter in maintaining a cadastral-based geographic information database. This class’s objectives are to give the student a complete account of the body of knowledge necessary to fulfill the assessment staff’s duties. Those skill sets require an understanding of the surveying profession, real estate law related to the ownership, listing, and transfer of real property, and the legal significance of the order of precedent when faced with ambiguous or conflicting boundary descriptions.
